~~May 2010 Night Ride Trip~~

Post by GlamisSandDuner » Mon May 03, 2010 5:55 pm

Please be advised that the location of this trip has changed from previous years.

Alright Ladies and Gentlemen, it's just about time for the Night Ride Season to start up \:D/ . As most of you know we all voted back in early March and decided that it was time to change the location of the Night Rides. Though the decision on the location was not made unanimously, we are going with the majority. With that being said as per the vote results;

The ASA Night Ride Group has voted to camp "At Gecko Pad 3 & 5 (with / near Glamis Dunes.com group)".

Please reference the main Night Ride page for specific information on all aspects of the Night Rides.

Well  looks like I am going to have to buy a new exhaust system for my quad ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) . ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) The exhaust I have is an LRD Performance and it looks like they went out of business. I have tried their website numerous times, it's no longer there. I have tried calling them numerous times and it just goes to a busy signal ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) . That being said I have started looking into a new exhaust system. I contacted Motoworks and they said that their new exhaust is coming out in a few weeks which is about 94db without a lack of performance. I will let you know which way I go.

Pad 3 is just after the turnoff to Gecko Campground (probably about a city block or so south if the turn off) on the left(east) and pad 5 is directly accross Gecko Road from pad 3 on the right (west).

Don't turn too early, make sure you see the signs for the pad before you turm off Gecko Road.

My understanding is that is why those guys camp there in the summer. BUT, it’s worth posting on this ASA BBS that swimming in the canal is illegal. So, [-X

With 17 days left before the May Night Ride, my 250R engine is in a million pieces spread across two counties right now. Not to mention, lots of my new parts haven’t come in yet.
That said, I’m GAME ON for the May Night Ride Trip, as this is kind of my normal MO.
:-k For break in, maybe I can just run my Heat Cycles in the back of the truck on the way out to the dunes. \:D/

So is there actual signs that say pad 3 & 5?

There are pad numbers on the road itself and as I recall there are signs that mark the edge of the pad (I think they are camping signs). If you turn too early, you end up in the sand, not the pad. That would not be good.

I am tempted to come for the weekend. The weather could be perfect?? I don't really like to ride at night. I don't see well enough to go fast and I don't like to go anything other than fast. :D Loren, are you up for it?

Gene, Its all posted in the Woodglues 250R thread. In brief, 21 months since the big rebuild, about 170 engine hours and the rings were worn enough to drop the compression by 20 percent and the cylinder had a little bit of damage above the exhaust port. So a new top end is going on it.

Ah!! You should have that done in a afternoon. I'm trying to decide if I'm going to do that this off season.

Yes I do. My machine shop told me that the drop came from Ring and Cylinder wear. He said I got my money's worth with +/-170 hours of ride time.

The latest forecast for Friday and Saturday was 95 in Brawley (it is a little early to bank on it). As I said earlier, if the temps are that "low", I would prefer to go for the weekend. I have a rail. 8)

A weekend in May is like stealing dune time :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D !!

Pwr Mad, it's nice to see another buggy wanting to join in the group. I've been flying sole for the last few years with these couch riders.

I won't make it out this trip as my dad is in town visiting from hawaii that weekend so we'll be doing family stuff...unless anyone wants to take my bet.

Yeah Gene, probably a 72 Elsinore 125cc. Came with a pair of Jt racing pants, but he retired his.

Nice pic Loren!

I’m really looking forward to this Night Ride Trip! My engine is back together now, and tonight I’ll finish it up and start the heat cycles.

But what’s this all about??

2 guys confirmed?
Fortunately, I’m hearing that Chuck will probably be there and that I’m hoping to see George & Dennis too.

Out of 23 votes, 9 votes represented the majority and we changed the camp location to “Gecko Pad 3 & 5 (with / near Glamis Dunes.com group)”

So, we’re looking at 2 guys, maybe 5 guys, at best, none of which know the Glamis Dunes.com group that we’re camping with / near.

AWKWARD! 8-[

I guess the logical conclusion is to camp someplace else. But that’s not what the ‘majority’ voted to do with this ASA NRG. One has to wonder… is any of that majority planning to come on the May Night Ride Trip?

I’m not diggin’ it!

Well, I'm still hoping to go, but being the only buggy in the group doesn't give me the warm fuzzies #-o

And unfortunately, I won't know if my buddy can go until Friday [-o<

I'm not sure who is going with the Glamis Dunes.com crew, but do know several members, so that shouldn't be a problem 8)

Ok Mike, I told you months ago I couldn't make this one, it's my 25th anniversary, and my wife thinks I should be with her, but I will be out the following week with Glamis Dunes .com for the holliday.

Thanks Jack what a performance you should have won an oscar for that one. Signed The Duke

Not looking good for me as my weekend at El Mirage attending the SCTA opener (that was supposed to be cheap) costed more than I thought it would. That and Hunter's quad lost spark while we were out there. I'm hoping it's just the "no start in gear safety" system that is malfunctioning.

I guess it is a little late in the game to be changing locations again.

Dennis AKA Walter wrote:So far, I plan to be there =D> and ready to ride some smooth sand [-o<
Got it
Well my exhaust isn't happening before this trip, I am going to go with the new Motoworks G2 exhaust that is supposed to have more power and only be 94db \:D/ . The problem is that they are still finishing up on the R & D on the exhaust so hopefully I will have it for the June trip [-o< . So I guess I'm going to go this weekend with my Hillbilly patch job that we did on during the ASA trip, hopefully it will hold together [-o< .

As far as Dennis goes I believe he is game on as well.
