~~aSa's 2010 Off Season Night Ride Trips~~

Post by Woodglue » Sun May 31, 2009 1:51 pm

Have you ever duned…
…mile after mile after mile on untouched, wind-smoothed sand?
…under such a brightly lit moon that you could turn off your headlights?
…Glamis in the summer?
You can do all of this, in one night with us!

Come out to Glamis with the aSa Night Ride Group for some off-season fun in the moon-lit dunes!

Our group has found a fantastic way to get our dune-fix during the off-season.... we hit the dunes of Glamis at night, when they are cooler! And what better time to Night Ride than under a full moon.... every month! 8)

Image
Following is our 2010 schedule, closely dictated by the Lunar Schedule:
Sa:May22~Su:May23, 2010
Sa:Jun26~Su:Jun27, 2010
Sa:Jul24~Su:Jul25, 2010
Sa:Aug21~Su:Aug22, 2010
Sa:Sep25~Su:Sep26, 2010
And your 2010/11 Dune Season starts just weeks later.

Take note that the above dates are correct! While you will find discrepancies in the 2010 ASA Calendar, the Night Ride Trips will be made per the schedule posted here. Sorry for any inconvieniences this may be causing you.

We'll be arriving at Glamis on Saturday Night just after the sun sets. Once everyone sets up camp [i.e. unloads the ride, ice-chest and camp-chair] and puts on their dress, we'll hit the dunes. A series of group rides will take place during the night with camp breaks between them. Some nap a bit, but most ride & rest their way through the night.

On Sunday morning as the sunrises, we ride as much as we can before the heat gets to be too much. After those rides, we gather back at camp and load up to head home. Usually we're on the road in time to catch McDonalds breakfast in Brawley... and even then it can be well over 100* already.

ANYONE can fit into the aSa Night Ride Group!
Attendance is open to any member of the ASA! If you're not a member, you can sign up for free at: Join the ASA!
We always plan to include two riding groups... one faster and more experienced than the slow one, and the other one more laid back and slower than the fast one..............both are extremely fun :!:. We are primarily all riding quads. However, Jeeps, Rhino's and sandrail's periodically join us, and are always welcome.

Keep an eye on this forum for any carpooling groups being organized in your area to help beat the fuel costs.
We will circle the wagons at Gecko Road's Pad 3 & 5 (with / near Glamis Dunes.com group).

Not to be too formal, but here are some guidelines...
 Whip and Safety Flag required on all OHV’s.
 Wear the appropriate Riding Gear, BackPack with tools, GPS, Cell Phone, Water and Goggles to name a few.
 Know the law about drinking and duning.
 Stay in line, passing at speed puts others in danger.
 Each rider is responsible for the rider behind them. If he/she stops, you stop too.
 Everyone is depending on your ride to make it back to camp. An unforeseen blown engine or damage from a crash is one thing, but being in the dunes for just 10 hours means that one preventable breakdown can eat up 20% of everyone’s time out there. We will not leave anyone behind, but in fairness to all, please don't bring any unmaintained or problematic rides.
 All participants must be aware of the risks involved and cross reference that with their riding capabilities. Also, they need to know the capabilities of their machine. Without paddle tires, sufficient power or with too much air-pressure the summer sands will pull you into a sucker-hole and stop the ride.

Glamis is much different in the summer!
Smooth Dunes galore!
Sand contains less moisture, and is therefore softer than any other time of the year!
No traffic and a lot less People!
The temps typically range from 80* lows to 110* highs ( +/- 5 degrees)

We hope to see you in the summer sands!

The aSa Night Ride Group...
Spanning your sand addiction from one season to the next!

I think it's about time we bring this to the top

 A few of us were talking about the upcomming summer rides and thought that changing the location to Gecko or the overlook would be a good idea. Chime in fellas, what do :-$ think :?:

I liked Gecko pads 3 and 5 when I was with the Glamis Dunes.com guys, they're usually there the same weekends as us, but they do two nights. They are a good bunch of people, and have different caliber rides going out all the time.

Im up for that..I know when we had our sept. night ride we did it at pad 3.5,and it was a really short hop to the big dunes..I would be up for having 2 groups in the same place......thats my 2 cents...anybody else????

I'm game with where ever you guys want to meet up. For those who like to nap (and yes, I do have the pics!) I can understand why you'd want to get away from the compound / train crossing.

Clay, are you proposing that we circle up with the Glamis Dunes group, or just near them?

I would be kind of worried about the security of our junk sitting at the Osbourne Outlook while we're not there. We're just as close to the Hwy at the Radio Tower, but Osbourne is more of a public lookout, inviting people up there.

Yes Mike, I think thats a good idea, they dont really circle up, they are spread all over those two pads, by the way pads 3 and 5 are across the street from each other. They go on some nice rides.

Joining the Glamis Dunes camp:
Aside from the couple guys on that were on that ride with us last summer, I have not met any of the Glamis Dunes guys that do the night rides. Not for lack of effort either... I recall we even rolled up and sat in the Glamis Dunes Night Ride camp a couple times the last couple summers to find no one awake.
Before camping with them, I'd like to meet them. And even then, I really like ASA group.

Glad to hear that you'll be back to the sand one of these days. While it's a long way off, atleast there's a tunnel at the end of the light!

From Rekd:
Ride the Glamis Sand Dunes All Summer Long with the aSa
Thursday April 15, 2010
FMC1.jpg
Ride the sand dunes in the desert all summer long with the American Sand Association's moon-lit run every month all summer long. Some of the best dunes can be found in the Imperial Sand Dune Recreation Area (ISDRA), otherwise known as Glamis.

ASA members can join a monthly group that rides miles and miles of virgin, wind blown sand in some of the best conditions all year long, with practically no other people anywhere. The rides happen every month on the weekend closest to the full moon. It's so bright you could almost run without your lights on!

If you're not already a member, you can join the ASA for free, and enjoy the summer ride while fulfilling your sand intake requirements.

Can't wait for the May trip! I need a new battery, some HID bulb plugs and a new set of paddles for my quad to be ready. I'm hoping maybe Momma will let me spring for a cushy cot for snoozin'. Looking forward to seeing the regular guys/gals and shaking some new hands. I'm working on my begging skills to get Walter to give me a ride in that trick RZR-S.
See you guys then.
