Important survival tip!

Post by Grumpy Wookiee » Fri Dec 15, 2006 1:21 pm

When we went out to Glamis for turkey day, we had an unwelcome visitor come to join us in camp. Yes, it was a Rattler! The dogs saw it first, and the snake coiled up and prepared to strike.

Then, out of the corner of my eye, I see Donna charge the snake, shovel in hand, and strike it dead.

Moral of the story: don't scare Donna or you might not make it back home

Note to self...

When near W16, stay more than a shovel's distance from this "Donna".

Ok, got it. For the record, is that a long handle or short one?

No, she's single with no kids. She has a little dog of some kind. She's also a trap/skeet champion. Just don't arm wrestle with her!!

Rattle snakes are something you need to be aware of out there, it's their home!!!

I've seen several over the years in Glamis (and the desert in general). Usually I just leave them alone or try to remove them from camp (they will come back so take them far away)(be dammed careful!!! if you attempt this!!!).

Before you step out in the morning, LOOK! ! ! ! before you move.

Now, they will try to avoid you, they don't generally want to be around humans or dogs.

Off the subject a little.. But I was a Foothill junior trap champ.. Very cool to see women shooting.. There were none when I was shooting. I would'nt worry about the shovel, I would worry about what she might be packin in her purse..

Because of the higher day time temps we've had down here, I'd say that would be more of a couldn't than a shouldn't.

Its been getting in the mid-70's and we've had a few low 80's as well.

I was kinda surprised she didn't get her shotgun and then have me pickup the snake with a shovel while she yelled "Pull!"
