Flags

Post by azpyroguy » Mon Mar 29, 2004 9:15 pm

On easter weekend, (Thurs Apr 8 to Sun April 11) we will have the ASA whip flags at our camp site. Remember if you donate $5, you get a flag for your whip... show your support!!

Most likely, will be near the 17th Wash down the road just on the west side of the railroad tracks that goes south. The road is just before the Glamis store.

Somone whould be there most of the time. 8)

Just a suggestion, but you might want to keep this on the down low.

According to the BLM any exchange of money, including an item of appreciation for receiving a donation, is illegal without the proper permits and more, they're insisting even with the proper permits it can only take place in designated areas (i.e., vendor flats).

Apparently the anti-access groups have made a very big deal of this and are just waiting for the chance to make a stink about it.

Vicky -

I had asked about that when I got my flag kit from the ASA commitee chair, and she told me that since the BLM supports the checkered flag program, they would not give me an issue.

The ASA does not pay me, nor do I make any money off this, I am offering\donating my time and resources to help the ASA and support the program.

I dont see the BLM giving any issues on this, but the Anti-Access groups I cold see whining about it, since they will stop at nothing to keep us out of our dunes (even going as far as out right lying).

But... if the ASA does not want me to offer the flags at my campsite showing the support for the program, then I won't.

Scott, the BLM will hardly be out there the rest of the season let alone have time to stake out your campsite. And it's quite possible that they would look the other way anyway.

But I was told the CBD is practically camped out at the BLM El Centro field office complaining about EVERYTHING and this is a big issue with them and I thought I'd give a little warning.

Don't worry about it. If they give you any trouble just let me or Grant know. They know our volunteers carry flags out there and if somebody asks for one they can make a donation.

No more on this.
