I picked up a 750 of Henry McKenna and another of Woodford reserve last time I was at Total Wine. $55 for both. Yum.

Speaking of alcohol... Has anyone heard of a rum called Mocambo? Found a bottle of some 20 year old at Price Club for $30. Seemed like a good deal, but I've never had it. Maybe I should just get some and see. How bad could it be...

You know, if we're not careful, people we think all we do is sit around and drink in the off season. I think it's important to note that drinking is not just confined to the "off" season. Which for me, is also cinder season and forest exploration season.

Oh... And I don't have a real Facebook page.

I only get to drink after work when I'm home and not going anywhere. I really limit how much I have if I go out and know I'm going to be driving.

I drink in every season; dune season, not dune season, dirt season, not dirt season, Garlic Festival weekend.

Why don't cha get a Facebook page? It's free. Then you can farm with me and Sloppy, write nasty stuff on our pages.

Brian harvested sunflowers on his farm today.

Brian tried to harvest his llamas but somebody stole them and cooked them.

Brian is now going to harvest his cats and dogs.

My friend Keri was gone all weekend to Las Vegas with her boyfriend. All her crops died. My friend Mona and I told Keri that since we are so much higher levels we rented saddles and rode her horses all over her farm. Keri believed me.

You guys aren't funny. Chuk can tell you I wasn't as close as I had thought all along. Besides once goo stops seeping from my body I'll get back to work on the car. Got a graduation and honey-dos this weekend... but after that! Well then there will be more farming. #-o Then a trip over to Chuks to play with the welder, and maybe work on the car. Get the motor stuff together in the next two weeks then attach all the pieces then take that to the car. Then the fun starts.

In other words I ran out of money. :(
:!: There is still daily progress. =D>

I made it Level 27 over the weekend. =D> =D> Only took buying a bunch of stuff, including a 3rd house, to get the 35000 points.

Now, to get 45000 for Level 28! :D

Gotta give HUGE thanks to Chukzillia for getting my shroud powder coated =D> =D> =D>

Gotta get it off the stand bolt up, fly wheel, PP,Clutch, then add the trans, then put it on the cage, put That on the trailer, take it over to Chuks, put it in the car, wiring, a few more welds and tiny things.

Farm Town:
Up to level 28 and just flipped over to 1,010,213 coins \:D/

Corvairs have such a great sound to them... You have a reverse rotation motor? Mid-engine car? Reversed ring and pinion? Corvair transaxle?

Parts for those can be tough to get. There used to (may still be) a guy here in town who had a Corvair parts outfit. That was a project I will not forget. I still have nightmares about it sometimes... I miss those days.

I have a Corvair transaxle, and in my opinion THE BEST Corvair guy in the world who helped me rebuild the trans. Dick Holiday ("Doc") Also takes calls at all hours with what might seem like the dumbest questions. Like yesterday, two plugs wires weren't reaching their intended holes. SOLVED!!! I can't say enough good things about Doc. These Corvairs are strange beasts to many people. Most people I know just shake their heads and walk off. Dick perks up and digs in. Kinda like a kid in a sand box who sees a guy just threw in a Tonka Truck.... "LETS PLAY!!!!" :D \:D/

The only thing about corvairs is keeping the carburation clean. If you still have a carb it is a ***** keeping the sand out of them. I know back in the old days the corvair was the hot car, then the VW took over because they seemed to be more reliable than the corvairs. Being a 6 cyl would kick bootie on the veedubs. Hopefully you can get a fuel injection kit for them now.

California Corvair in Corona. Jeff there is a great guy as well. Corvairs are like Glamis there are mostly really nice people involved with them. Here and there you get a couple of real jerks.

Fuel injection for Corvair? :-k Can you drizzle in fuel with injectors? They need only like 5-7 pounds. Or something like that. I dunno I just woke up.

Stupid motor. I have a stripped bolt down in a hole on my fly wheel. I have the tools to get it out but I can't this time of night. So I move to the "new" motor and find the race (or bearing) for the drive shaft is more sloppy than any thing that could be known for. Doc gave me a good trick on how to get it out, pretty much hydrolocking it with axle grease and pounding it out. Lots of fun packing it in there. Go to pound it out and there is so much slop its like making play dough pasta.

Also fell backwords when I was trying to sit down on my little rolling stool. Then the dogs started barking and the police helo was flying over the hood. Time to call it quits.

But I did the the dishes today, cooked dinner, killed a pop legend, and got a good nap in, So I can't complain about the day.

Why is it that a day like today, it was a day that was going so smoothly, turned to crap for the last 3 hours of the day??? ](*,)

Why do teamster truck drivers whine like little puppies when I tell them to work overtime on Friday? They get paid time and 1/2 for up to 4 hours and then get double time after that. So, why do they cry like little girls? :-k ](*,)

Perhaps they do not wish to work. Me, however, being greedy, am typically happy to work overtime as I have several money absorbing hobbies. But, I don't drive trucks.

If you can drive a stick-shift, I can teach you. Trucks nowadays only have 8-10 gears, it isn't hard. Plus, the engines are computer controlled so you can't really hurt them. Driving one of them is just like driving a big ol' car.

I love early. I remember back when I started this buggy project I could lift that transmission by myself. Not even close now. Sooooo I get Bob to help. But Bob gets up way too early. At least its all muscle work. Done this before

Harvested my crops but no way in heck am I gonna plow and seed at this hour.

I swear I'm gonna kill my new neighbors accross the street. Now I have two neighbors who enjoy sky rockets. I love it when the lots next door catch fire. Its their way of saying Happy 4th.

The morning after Second guessing a lot of things. All this "work" and even though I'm proud of the motors inners I think I could have worked more on the looks of it. I have chrome valve covers, and cover for the trans (to replace the blue thinggy there) But the things like the pain on the intake manifold, the side shroud things that are bent to hell. one with no paint, one with flat black. Maybe paint the bell housing and trans?

I don't think so.

But I do think the same thing that makes Facebook and Twitter so attractive to so many people is a big reason why.

They appeal to short attention spans. And a fight like the ASA's is not something that is resolved within that kind of time frame leading to many people loosing interest/faith/hope and wandering off when they're most needed.

I think it has more to with the time that has past since the original closures than anything else. You'll notice that things heated up a bit with the wash road closure, and other issues that demanded front burner attention. Perhaps when the new DRAMP is released we will see an upswing in activity.

Facebook and such may have taken away some of the social aspect of the ASA BBS, though. When the board was started, there were not nearly as many options for sharing day to day thoughts and ideas. Now there are over 350 "social networking" sites. Currently the ASA Facebook page has 163 members.
Water is just beer that hasn't reached its full potential.

I used to go to at least a dozen off-road/sand websites a day, and several times.....

now, I go to this one, FB, and one more related to my hobby of leatherwork.

I've also gotten more into actually talking to people, either on the phone or going to see them. I absolutely hate texting....what a lousy way to attempt communication.

Just my opinion.

and if it weren't for Farm Town, I'd spend about 2 minutes on FB.

Sometimes, just communicating 'cause you can is really IRRITATING!

8 months later, I'll ask the same question again:

Is it slowing? Yes
Why? I don't know, but my gut tells me it's a combination of things, not the least of which is people loosing interest in a 10 year battle to open the "temporary" closed areas b/c they feel their efforts are futile. Facebook and other social networking sites may have something to do with it but I think the affect is less than we think.

I was just thinking about this yesterday as I wondered when the last time I got a notice, either by snail mail or email, that my ASA dues were due. I can't remember!! And I'm pretty sure I haven't paid in over a year. It seems like ASA marketing is slipping, which not only leads to a slow down here, but also in fund raising. I'm not trying to bust anyones chicken nugets, just expressing my opinion since the question was posed.

Right on schedule, I got my renewal in Oct or Nov. But, to be honest, I didn't renew my supporting membership for personal reasons, in relation to my observations of a reduction in ASA involvement applicable to ISDRA / PMV issues. I could not care less about Herber Dunes, Johnson Valley, and these other 'secondary' issues while the 'primary' issues (PMV closures, DRAMP, etc) occuring the the 'Sand Dune Capital of the World' seems to have been moved to the back burner.

I like facebook a lot. It has connected me with people from as far back at 20 years ago. In 2 months, I have a reunion in Northern Cal.... with all my Grade School class mates! =D> While I would pass / have passed on a High School reunion, Grade School days rocked! Looking forward to seeing those guys again!

If I could talk as freely on this bbs as I do in other places I would post here more. Just the banned words alone are a joke. Look at how media was when these rules were written and look at whats allowed in the media today. MOST the people on this bbs belive, like I do, that if a TV/radio show offends you turn the station/channel. Also most of us are against all the P.C. that is forced on the public. Around here if you don't follow the leader you get hammered by a few fanantics that think everybody should walk the same line as they do. I'm NOT saying F&S bombs should be allowed and there should be boobys all over the place. Theres a place for that. and its not here. I know that. I have very few filters on my site and allow the ocasional hot chick posted but people don't get out of hand. We're adults. We should be treated as such.

Yes it does seem like the fight is slowing down, but I know that court hearings take a long time. I also know from doing events that month after month goes by and theres just nothing new to report on. Continuing on with what is the truth for me is remember about 2001 on that we were worried that there would just be gates up, and that the ISDRA would be fenced off. I have seen a ton of work going on to make sure that doesn't happen. =D> to the ASA and their partnership with the BLM, and local government for that. Next time you see Bob Mason, Dick Holiday, Jerry Seaver, and sooo many others just ask them how many hours they put in a day talking with people.
I know the ASA has a huge need for volunteers. So many, in fact, that when something comes up that will help our fight they (we) first have to ask, "do we have the people to cover it?" Most of you see the mass yearly effort at the SSSS. Alot of the time I only see those people, at the SSSS. Life happens and people have jobs. but the ASA IS a volunteer org. If you don't see something happening jump in and ask what you can do. **** it
#-o Dang it.

:?

If you're talking about coming on this BBS becuase you got a DUI in the ISDRA and you want sympathy... I hear ya.

If you're talking about anything else, especially the PDO forum, then you might just consider "turning turn the station/channel" like lots do.

Mike

I'm sorry you don't think we are spending enough time on ISDRA issues.

Some of the things we do that don't seem like they are associated with the ISDRA are in support of other OHV organizations and while that may not seem important to someone that only recreates at the ISDRA we need to support other organizations so they will support us when we need extra help. Just as our involvement with Ecologic allows some of our funds to support Johnson Valley some of the other organizations money is supporting our efforts at the ISDRA.

I'm sure those at AMA D-37 are asking the same questions you are, why is my money going to help the ISDRA when I don't go there. If the ASA just depended on Supporting member donations we would not have funds for many of the things we do. We need to work with other groups to have a more clout to achieve our objectives.

I'm sorry that things move so slow, I would like them to move faster but that is just not the way it works when working with the BLM and the courts.

Not trying to make anyone uncomfortable but we are always looking for ideas to move the issues along. If you have some ideas or suggestions on doing something differently please contact us.

I understand Doc, it the simple issue that the ASA's agenda (driven by other orgs) does not match my personal agenda. Now, that being said, ASA is the one org that has the closest match to my agenda.

Mike, are you implying that the ASA now has a different primary agenda other than the closure? Nobody likes to be told to "relax", but jeez.

I guess that's what I'm "implying", as that's exactly what I am saying. I don't know what you mean by the word "different", but if you are talking about ASA's current agenda being "different" than the ASA's Agenda was back on 2002, 2003, etc. Then, yes, their agenda is different now. Re-read Doc's above post.
Or, if by "different" you mean that the ASA's Agenda is not the same as mine. Yes to that too.

"Relax"... I have. Evidence: the 'supporting member' junk was removed from my BBS Signature a few months ago. So "Jeez" yourself.
